Ghirardelli Square Project

Ghirardelli Square Project

Ghirardelli Square is a landmark property in the Fisherman’s Wharf area of San Francisco, California. In 1893, Domingo Ghirardelli purchased the entire city block to develop the headquarters of the Ghirardelli Chocolate Company. ProTech Consulting & Engineering was hired to prepare for an extensive renovation and construction of the Fairmont Place luxury hotel, new shops, and restaurants. To accommodate the massive undertaking, we performed hazardous materials testing and inspection services, prepared specifications, and developed bid documents. During renovation, we provided hazardous materials monitoring and oversight services and conducted a detailed hazard assessment for all the construction trades.

Pebble Beach Lodge Project

Pebble Beach Lodge Project

The Lodge at Pebble Beach is a world-class oceanfront golf resort in Pebble Beach, California. Although the lodge is a public facility, its outstanding location, service, and four-diamond accommodations rival the best high-end resorts in the world. During renovation and expansion, work was performed to add rooms and convert the former Casa Palmero mansion into The Spa at Pebble Beach. In preparation for the work, the Pebble Beach Development Company hired ProTech Consulting & Engineering to perform pre-renovation hazardous materials inspections. During hazmat removal, they continued to provide consulting services and conducted final inspection and clearance monitoring to certify the completion of the work.

Laguna Honda Hospital Project

Laguna Honda Hospital Project

Construction of the historic Clarendon Hall on the Laguna Honda Hospital site in San Francisco was completed in 1910. The building was originally built to provide long-term care to many victims of the great earthquake and fire of 1906. During site development, the great hall was demolished to make way for a new state-of-the-art skilled nursing facility. In preparation for this, the City of San Francisco hired ProTech Consulting & Engineering to perform hazardous material inspection services, testing, assessment, and hazardous materials scope-of-work development. During the remediation and demolition phases, we performed full-time hazardous materials management and oversight services throughout the 9 months it took to complete the project.

UC Berkeley Doe Library Project

UC Berkeley Doe Library Project

Standing in the center of the UC Berkeley campus is architect John Galen Howard’s massive granite building called the Doe Library. The Beaux-Arts influenced building was completed in 1896 making it one of the first buildings on the UC Berkeley campus. In preparation for its recent $64 million seismic retro and upgrade project, UC Berkeley hired us to provide comprehensive hazardous materials inspection services. These services had to be performed discretely while students, staff, and visitors still occupied the building. During remediation and complete interior demolition, ProTech Consulting & Engineering provided full-time monitoring, oversight, inspections, and clearance of all abatement and clean-up work.

  Ritz-Carleton (Market Street) Project

Ritz-Carleton (Market Street) Project

The “Old Chronicle Building” was built by the DeYoung Brothers as the original headquarters of their growing newspaper empire. Legendary skyscraper architects Burnham and Root of Chicago were commissioned to design the Chronicle building. Completed in 1889, it was the first skyscraper in San Francisco and the first steel-frame building in the West. The property was purchased and plans were made to convert the historic landmark into the Ritz-Carlton Club and Residences. The project required a complete demolition of the building's interior, leaving only the historic exterior walls. New interior floors were created within the old historic shell and additional levels were added to a total of 24 floors. Before any demolition, the owners hired ProTech Engineering & Consulting to conduct hazardous materials inspection and testing services and create a remediation scope of work. We provided ongoing oversight, consultation, and clearance services until the project’s successful completion.
